Hanuman (IPA: hʌnʊˈmɑn) is a Hindu deity, who was an ardent devotee of Rama according to the Hindu legends. He is a central character in the Indian epic Ramayana, and also finds mentions in several other texts, including Mahabharata, the various Puranasand some Jain texts. A vanara (ape-like humanoid), Hanuman participated in Rama's war against the demon king Ravana. Several texts also present him as an incarnation of the Lord Shiva.

Nāga (Sanskrit: नाग, IAST: nāgá, IPA: [nəɡá], Burmese: နဂါး, Javanese: någå, Khmer: នាគ neak, Thai: นาค nak, Chinese: 那伽,Standard Tibetan: ཀླུ་, Bengali: নাগ nago) is the Sanskrit and Pāli word for a deity or class of entity or being, taking the form of a very greatsnake, Sea serpent — specifically the king cobra, found in Hinduism and Buddhism. The use of the term Nāga is often ambiguous, as the name may also refer, in similar contexts, to one of several human tribes known as or nicknamed "Nāgas"; to elephants; and to ordinary snakes, particularly the king cobra and the Indian cobra. A female nāga is a nāgī or nāginī.
