Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection part 164 features Nilo Rodis's third unused U.S.S. Excelsior Starship concept for STAR TREK III.
The long pre-production time allowed art director Nilo Rodis to develop several prototypes for the U.S.S. Excelsior to appear in STAR TREK III: The Search for Spock. This model is a more elongated variant that contrasts with a more round shape of the Enterprise. This model was later seen briefly in Star Trek: The Next Generation and even had an off-screen name.
